RG Day 2
Obviously with the amount of matches going on and our limited mental capacity as human beings we cannot cover all the matches but we tried our best :).
Swiatek / Juvan
These two are famously good friends (see this interview) so it was no surprise when Juvan interrupted Swiatek’s warmup to say hi. It was the cutest thing that happened today and yes I wrote this at 12:18 pm.

cutest hug between the two

great dropshot by Swiatek

nice volley exchange

great point and defence by Swiatek
The 2nd set was a really close high quality set. This is how close Juvan was to breaking for 6-5.

Iga turns 20 today. (Happy birthday, Iga) That was her reaction when Bartoli started singing into the mic…

Swiatek as a conductor!!

and another sweet hug or two
They stuck around after the hug to discuss the match. Thanks to @vcrsports who transcribed it.
Only got bits of it on the rewind, but:
Kaja: "I was kinda nervous at the beginning... I don't have any confidence in [unintelligible], seriously."
Iga: "You're playing great."
Kaja: "Yeah, the second set was good, right?"
Herbert / Sinner
Watching someone play PHH’s brand of tennis successfully on clay is always fun and the French crowd did not disappoint. He pushed Sinner a lot today.

one of many S&V moments

tough low volley
Paire / Ruud
This gif is just very dramatic / cinematic so I added it. (In case you don’t understand sarcasm this is a joke.)

Casper giving Benoit a certain look

Vondrousova
Vondrousova faced the seed slayer, a.k.a. Kanepi, in the 1st round. She eventually won the match with the help of so many dropshots. Reminder: Vondrousova is defending finalist points from 2019.

Vondrousova played 3 dropshots in a row
Harmony Tan
First career slam win for Tan. She is 23 and world no. 149.

Tan stocked
It came at the expense of countrywoman Cornet.

Cornet lost 4-6, 4-6. Led in both sets 3-1 and 3-0.
Medvedev
Medvedev gets his first win at RG thanks to some great returning and a lot of Bublik UEs.

A return from the extreme corner

Bublik almost taking Medvedev out
Match wins at Roland-Garros:
Nadal: 100
Medvedev: 1
The chase starts now
Federer is back

Federer still producing hotshots (to no one's surprise)
Federer had a lot of success with the dropshots during the match.

We’re all super happy to see Federer back.
*Federer moves*
Commentator: THIS IS JUST INSANE HOW DOES HE DO THAT?
😂 #RolandGarros
Kenin/Ostapenko

From a big roar to a stink eye. Range.
In the final set, Kenin dominated on return games. So many similar backhand returns like the one below.

This tweet sums up the match better than I ever could.

Kostyuk / Muguruza
We were very excited about this match but unfortunately Muguruza looked hampered by a back injury. Kostyuk did play very well though.

Fun moments
What would Andreescu do after completely blanking her first serve ?

Andreescu stands right back up. Well, not quite. She loses to Zidansek 9-7 in the 3rd in a very compelling match.

I complain a lot about high camera angles but this camera captures the enigma that is the Delbonis’ serve, so it can stay.

Look at that, perfectly judged camera angle. https://t.co/8I0dAH8QoI
Kenin with a very relatable moment while facing Ostapenko. The motherfucker + Italian 🤌 is an interesting combo.

Who missed the Perrier sigh?
annual tweet about the Perrier lady sighing into my unprepared earholes
Serena won the very first night match set at RG and was very excited about it. No, but seriously the first set was incredibly close. Serena had to save 2 SPs.

Not so fun section
Live view of Konta’s ranking after this early loss. She’s dropping the SF points from 2019 (~28% of her points).

Bertens hasn’t been playing well since her Achilles surgery and unfortunately, that hasn’t changed.

Bertens frustration
Scrappy a lot of times, Maria Camila Osorio Serrano won’t be faulted for not fighting. But her successful and tiring clay season ends with a first round loss to Brengle.

The Colombian teen finally hits the wall
I'd like to congratulate all four Grand Slams on handling this the worst, most insensitive way possible.
You really outdid yourself this time, tennis.
